Milestones
September 29, 2026 | Media report - Our project will become visible
Another wonderful milestone for Swianda Maternity: For the first time, our passion project is being featured in a public magazine.
"dr Wecker," the community magazine for the towns of Bremgarten bei Bern, Herrenschwanden, Kirchlindach, and Felsenau, reports on Swianda Maternity and our vision in Uganda.
This is an important next step for us:
Our project is gaining visibility – and more and more people are learning about what we plan to create in Uganda and how we want to work together to sustainably improve the lives of mothers and children.
We are delighted by this valuable attention and are pleased to be able to share our story with the public.
September 12, 2026 | Receive official tax exemption
More good news:
We have received official tax exemption for Swianda Maternity from the cantonal tax authorities.
This means that donations to our association are tax-deductible. We can now issue donation receipts to our donors upon request.
August 28, 2026 | We have more great news - Welcome aboard Dr. Charlotte Mischler!
With great joy and gratitude, we welcome Dr. Charlotte Mischler as a new member of the Swianda Maternity team.
Charlotte runs her own gynecological practice in Bremgarten near Bern and is a board-certified specialist in operative gynecology and obstetrics. She has also completed training as an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). With her many years of experience and comprehensive expertise, she is a valuable asset to our project.
Charlotte also has a strong personal connection to Africa. As an enthusiastic traveler, she has visited numerous countries on the continent, getting to know and appreciate the people, the diverse cultures, and the great diversity of Africa. For about a year and a half, she has further deepened her connection to East Africa through an intensive Swahili course and is engaging with the language and culture of the region with great joy and personal commitment.
We are all the more delighted that Charlotte now wants to combine her enthusiasm for Africa with her medical expertise and her dedication to Swianda Maternity.
Charlotte will be providing Swianda Maternity with expert advice on gynecological and obstetric issues. Her willingness to contribute her knowledge and extensive experience directly on-site in Uganda is particularly valuable to our project.
A key focus will be on the training and professional development of our future midwives and local medical staff. The goal is to collaboratively develop and disseminate sustainable medical knowledge and practical skills locally.
Charlotte's commitment extends far beyond providing expert advice. She aims to strengthen local structures and knowledge in the long term, thereby making a significant contribution to high-quality, safe, and sustainable care for pregnant women, mothers, and newborns in Purongo.
August 08, 2026 | SWIANDA Maternity welcomes its first official employee
And another wonderful milestone! Swianda Maternity has welcomed its first official employee, Sunday Oweka.
Sunday has taken up his position as Land & Grounds Steward and will be responsible for the care of the trees and plants, as well as the upkeep of the entire plot.
August 07, 2026 | We are now registered as a Community Based Organization
Today is a great day, and we are delighted to announce that we have received our registration as a CBO (Community Based Organization) from the local authorities.
This means we are now officially a registered association in Uganda, authorized to award contracts, make purchases, hire staff, and offer services.
May 24, 2026 | Website
We are thrilled to announce another major milestone!
We now have our own website where you can directly support and donate to us.
This brings us significantly closer to our goal and allows us to further advance our projects.
Thank you to everyone who has accompanied and supported us on this journey!
April 17, 2026 | Signing of the deed transferring the land
Signing of the Land Transfer Deed: The deed transferring 2 hectares of land has been signed.
The family head, Robinson Uma, his wife, Florence Uma Adong, and their sons, Jacob Ojok, Raymond Odong, and Sunday Oweka, ceremoniously signed the deed.
This makes it official: The Swianda Maternity Association now owns 2 hectares of land. A major first step has been taken to provide safer childbirth for expectant mothers in this region.
April 8, 2026 | Site visit and selection of the 2 hectares
Together with the village elders and those responsible, a site visit is conducted, and a decision is then made regarding which two hectares should be used for construction.
Decision criteria included proximity to the road and the village well. Furthermore, the location had to be safe from flooding, which is particularly common during the rainy season.
April 6, 2026 | Presentation of the SWIANDA Maternity project
Our project was officially presented to the local community.
Representatives from the village council, the village elder, as well as from the church and local government were present. The enthusiasm and gratitude were overwhelming.
The event was followed by a celebration with dancing, singing, and food.
