As soon as we have gathered enough donations, we would like to begin the construction of Swianda maternity center. Even though we are still fully engaged in our professional lives, we will regularly fly to Uganda to oversee the project. During our absence, the project will be managed by Raymond Odong.

At this point, we would like to mention that we will finance our respective trips to Uganda ourselves. Therefore, not a single franc of the donation money will go towards our flights, overnight stays, or other personal expenses.

What happens next after construction is complete?

Of course, we are aware that building this birthing center is not the end of the story.

The goal is to ensure 24/7 operation. This requires staff who must be paid, and the costs for supplies, medications, maintenance, water, electricity, diesel, etc., must also be covered.

 

We are currently working on determining the annual operating costs.

 

We have also considered how to finance these costs. We currently have the following ideas:

• Monthly or annual contributions from patrons.
• One-time donations.
• Patrons covering one month's salary for a staff member.
• Covering the cost of a single birth. We will determine the amount later.
• Each child will receive a knitted cap, hand-knitted by volunteers. These caps can be purchased symbolically for an amount yet to be determined.
• Continued sale of bracelets and greeting cards at Uniprint99, Länggassstrasse 83, Bern.
• A contribution of $2 from mothers giving birth.

 

In the future, we would also like to accept donations of baby clothes. We will send these to Uganda regularly or deliver them personally.
